Still don't have the knack of ILS approaches? Well here a lesson that will take alot of the guess work out ot it. Its called the EFIS/CFPD System. What this system does is place square boxes within the glide slope taking the guess work
out of your final approach. First we need to activate the system. This can be done by clicking on your Nav/Com Menu. [FS98 users go to the naviagtion menu under aircraft]
The third option down will have the setting for the EFIS/CFPD display commands. First you will need to activate the EFIS/ flight path display. Click the EFIS Master Switch box. Choose the ILS /LOC for land approaches. The other options should all be ok if you are using defaults. thin for Density, Short for range box. Click OK to use these settings
. [FS98 users, keep in mind that these settings will not be active until the VOR or ILS in question can be received, which means you will have to climb to at least 2000 feet to activate the EFIS/CFPS
systems] You now want to go to Meigs Field. We will be flying in this lesson to Ohare. The settings should be set for the flight. [FS98 users, keep in mind that these settings will not be active until
the VOR or ILS in question can be received, which means you will have to climb to at least 2000 feet to activate the EFIS/CFPS systems]
NAV 1 should have the frequency needed. 110.50. NAV 2 113.9 As you look out towards the end of the runway you should be a seriers of red dots, this is where you will be flying to. [FS98 users keep in
mind the red ots or boxes will not be visable till you've reached an altitude of around 2000 feet.]
As you get closer these dots will turn into squares and will be your glide slope that you are going to line up with. Release your parking brake (.), set flap to at least 10% (F6) Apply full throttle (F3) and take off. Remember to retract your landing gear!(G) Climb to about 4500 feet, keeping your flight on a 360 degree heading. As you begin to approach the glide slope, begin a bank to your left to around 270 degress, The secret is to line the plane up with these squares and fly thru them. watch your altitude and air speed. If you do everything right and are lined up at about the 5 mile mark on your DME2 gauge the outer marker becon alarm should sound. This means you are on track! keep on following the glide slope, the middle beacon should sound at about 2.5 miles or so. Remember to lower your landing gear(G) If you did everthing right you should be getting ready to land, Congratulations you made it!
